Guidelines for Hosting Services
For all services,
hosts will
discuss the content of the evening with Rabbi Lisa well in
advance.
Set up in advance:
Hosts will
arrange seating (an open circle format is preferred) before the
Rabbi and
Chavura members arrive. If additional seating will be needed,
hosts are
encouraged to ask members to bring additional seating (e.g., via
the Chavura
email
listserver or by asking officers for assistance).
§
Friday evening
Shabbat services:
o
Hosts
will
decide whether...
§
to
provide
all supplies and refreshments for Kiddush, OR
§
to
coordinate
with other Chavura members who will bring refreshments
o
Hosts
are
responsible for communicating their preference to the Chavura
§
Saturday
evening
Havdala services will be
pot-luck events
o
Hosts
provide
coffee/tea
o
Chavura
has
paper goods and plastic silverware for the pot-luck dinners
o
Hosts
are
not responsible for all food and supplies: they will coordinate
food and
supplies brought by other members
§
Hosts
who
find they must "back out" (life happens, after all) must find
their replacements.
A
Question of Space: we can all be hosts!
§
It
is understood that not everyone has a home large
enough to accommodate every
type of service.
§
Smaller homes would be suitable
for Friday night Shabbat services; while larger homes are better
suited for Havdala pot-lucks and special
services such as
Tu B'Shevat. We should
make every
effort to schedule accordingly.
§
Members
with homes that cannot easily accommodate services can contribute
as co-hosts, and they can host Shabbat Dinners.
